TTA was pleased to support the Rest Area announcement at Brighton Transport Hub yesterday! The proposal is to improve the current rest area by developing the block next door to provide toilets, seating, shade, and encourage coffee / food vans, making this a great place to take a break. We know there is a desperate need for better facilities on freight routes throughout Tas and we’ve been highlighting this for a few years now, especially the need for toilets. We will have a toilet at Howth – it was meant to be there already and was always part of the plan. We agree on the need for toilets at Longford! And we’re working hard to make sure that there are toilets and rest areas on both the Bass and Midland Highways, at the Bridport turn off, and other parts of the road network. It’s great that Brighton Council is looking to support the truck drivers who enable the economic activity of the region. Co-funding from the Australian Government's Heavy Vehicle Rest Area Initiative is important to get this happening, but there has to be someone who proposes the project – local or state government. There are more Tasmanian heavy vehicle driver rest area projects in the pipeline at various stages of planning and development.
